Tennis pros gear up for Regions Morgan Keegan tournament

Andy Roddick will be on hand at the Regions Morgan
Keegan Championships and Cellular South Cup Feb. 13-20.

The Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and Cellular South Cup may have a new name for 2005, but the true winners of the tournament are still the same: the children of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Former champions Andy Roddick and Tommy Haas will be in Memphis, Tenn., Feb. 13-20, as will defending Cellular South Cup champion Vera Zvonareva and two-time champion Lisa Raymond.

"We are very excited about this year's tournament for two reasons," said Mac Winker, owner of The Racquet Club of Memphis and Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and the Cellular South Cup. "We have a number of great players coming to Memphis that are sure to give fans some thrilling matches. And, of course, with St. Jude still the beneficiary of the tournament, we know that children around the world will have a better chance at beating cancer or some other catastrophic disease."

Roddick and Haas will each try to improve on their early losses during the 2004 tournament. Each will be looking for their second RMK title. Also scheduled to play is Vincent Spadea. Fans will delight in watching this long-time Memphis supporter in 2005. Spadea enjoyed his best pro season by finishing a year-end best #19, capturing his first career ATP title and winning a personal-high 40 matches in March.

Helping to round out the men's draw is Xavier Malisse and Jan Harnych, No. 16 player in the world, and Max Mirnyi, No. 18 in the world.

On the women's side, Lisa Raymond will look to avenge her 2004 finals loss against defending champion Vera Zvonareva.

Zvonareva, who made her professional debut in Memphis, will seek to defend her title she won last year in a breath-taking championship match against Raymond, preventing Raymond from claiming her third straight Cellular South Cup championship.

No. 1 junior player in the world Nicole Vaidisova will also be in Memphis for the tournament.
